Our ancestors may have created God out of fear and ignorance but modern man continues the beliefs out of pride and vanity.
The universe is big, really big, and timeless but our lives and our world are finite and unbelievable tiny in the vastness of space.
I suspect this makes most people uncomfortable so what better way to reduce universe to human scale and give ourselves the most important role in the universe then make ourselves the prize creation of creative power behind the universe itself and not only that but make ourselves in the image of that power, God.
The humility of the religious is a false humility because through the creation of God we have made ourselves eternal and powerful. With the creation of God we give our lives meaning and importance without God we’d actually have to think about it and possible find ourselves lacking.
